Drag queens have now become mainstream, thanks to TV shows
and social media. The images we see are largely glorified – they look young,
thin, feminine, and glamorous. James
Hoskins has created this short film to counter this idea. “Beautiful by Night” shows older drag queens,
from the heart of San Francisco, doing their job. Their stories are about the
aging body and the labor of the drag queen. The beauty, for me, is not on their looks, but the labor and performance.
